Cheka Sana Tanzania is a vibrant national NGO that strives to advance street-connected children's rights and equality in Tanzania. We help every street-connected child to become who they want to be. Based in Mwanza City, Cheka Sana Tanzania (CST) works toward providing the basic needs of children, such as care and support for their education, health, child rights, environment, protection and sports.
Our mission is to enable and create positive, sustainable change for the lives of children living alone and of children at risk of being on the streets in Tanzania. We do this by meeting the immediate needs of children living or working on the streets, recognizing the power and potential of every single child.
The Director will be responsible for developing the strategic direction of the Tanzania programme in line with the Cheka Sana Foundation's international strategy and national development plans. To help us achieve this objective, the Director will lead the organisation to be the first choice for donors, private sector partners, and communities in Tanzania. On the three pillars of Protecting Children on the Streets and meet the immediate needs, Shifting Local Perception and Holding Government Responsible.
The Director position is a key role in the Cheka Sana Tanzania and the Senior Management team to design, share progress and review the strategic direction of the organisation. The Director is responsible for identifying and securing new funding opportunities to grow and diversify the portfolio by working closely with the Cheka Sana Foundation UK. The pipeline would build on existing initiatives but should also include projects that expand our national geographical operation and technical footprint in the Country. The Director will provide leadership and management to the team, set and deliver project goals, maintain excellent relations with the Board of Trustees, Donors and the Government of Tanzania at all levels, provide technical and administrative oversight, and ensures staff, volunteers and beneficiaries are safeguarded. He/she is responsible for the financial sustainability of CST's operation, represents Cheka Sana Tanzania with donors, potential implementing partners, private sector, and crucially provides the link between Cheka Sana Tanzania and the rest of the organisation (Cheka Sana Uganda and Cheka Sana UK).
On a day-to-day basis, the Director will also manage programme teams, supporting Programme Managers in delivering against project goals, ensuring project spend on target, programme quality and timely delivery of reports. He/she would also be responsible for building the technical capacity of the programme teams, ensuring that teams are aware of and are using key Cheka Sana documents, such as the project/programme design, partnerships and grants agreement and policy documents. The Director will also oversee a team that is responsible for financial management, human resources, and logistics functions.
Externally, the Director is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with senior counterparts in Cheka Sana Uganda and Cheka Sana UK, partner organisation, donors, the local community and the private sector - raising the profile of Cheka Sana Tanzania's work. The following describes the key responsibilities, relationships and competencies against which the Director is recruited and assessed;

Relationship management, funding and dissemination. Understand and engage with principal stakeholders that are critical to the success of our work, including:
Maintaining a strong relationship with existing key donors including DFID, RCA, USAID, PACT, Cheka Sana Foundation UK, Amos Trust, Comic Relief, government departments, private sector organisations and other NGOs to achieve the strategic goals of Cheka Sana in Tanzania. Lead key relationships with new donors and other strategic partners in Tanzania and in the region.
Work collaboratively with the senior management team and technical managers, where Cheka Sana is seen as an expert in our chosen sectors with appropriate lessons and evidence for decision-makers and policymakers.
