Commercial and business development Manager typically has a bachelor’s degree in business, management or marketing. This kind of manager also possesses extensive experience in sales and customer service, as well as technical knowledge relevant to

the industry.

Commercial and business development manager possess strong planning and analytical skills. He or she develops a deep understanding of the technical and business challenges that clients face, then identifies opportunities to increase sales of related products and services. A CD also monitors and analyzes competitor activities to assess threats to important clients. He or she uses his account knowledge for setting revenue targets and identifying resources needed to meet them. In addition, he or she identifies and organizes training, helping clients use generate value out of the spend with us.

Necessary Skills and Responsibilities

A CBDM needs strong internal communication and coordination skills. He or she works closely with customer-facing staff (Account Managers) when explaining clients’ needs and motivating them to provide the highest service standards. When CD identifies opportunities for selling new products to companies, he or she briefs the product development team on the essential features to meet client needs. He or she also builds relationships with senior executives, purchasing managers, technical managers, finance directors and other members of the client team who make or influence purchasing decisions. This type of manager builds relationships with clients, based on trust and value, for overcoming issues of price and creating strong barriers to competition.

As a commercial and business development manager the following initiatives will be executed from you

  1. Mapping up all possible segments that we are likely to offer services to and present a concrete annual, quarterly plans in tapping into them

  2. Working with various stakeholders both internal and external in updating and redesigning company profiles, websites, emailers, newsletters and management of social media channels

  3. Organizing client focused events intended to enhance our client loyalty and showcasing our new products and services

  • Ensure the development of tactical programs to pursue targeted goals and objectives.
  • Engage in key or targeted customer activities.
  • Participate in lead generation and business development
  • Gather Market and client information
  • Act as a contact between the company and its existing and potential markets
  • Maintain and develop relationships with existing and potential clients in person and via telephone calls and emails
  • Arrange and execute meetings with potential clients and prospects for new business
  • Manage all incoming sales related emails and phone inquiries
  • Negotiate the terms of an agreement and close sales
  • Advise on forthcoming product development
  • Create detailed proposal documents, often as part of a formal bidding processes which is largely dictated by the prospective client
  • Conducting researches on the new marketing opportunities
  • Assist in development of marketing strategies
  • Execute marketing strategies
  • Cold call as appropriate within the market or geographic area to ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities. * Meet potential clients by growing, maintaining, and leveraging your network.
  • Identify potential clients, and the decision makers within the client organization.
  • Research and build relationships with new clients.
  • Set up meetings between client decision makers and company’s leaders/Principals.
  • Plan approaches and pitches. * Work with team to develop proposals that speaks to the client’s needs, concerns, and objectives


  • Excellent communications skills, proficient in English and Swahili
  • Interpersonal skills: ability to pursue others to buy products
  • Computer Literate: ability to work with Microsoft office site, social networks
  • Methodological approach to problem solving and be able to use logic and reason to identify alternative solutions
