Mobile data collection is the use of mobile phones, tablets or pda's for programming or data collection. Data collection isn’t anything new, but the introduction of mobile devices has revitalized this tedious process by making it more fun and efficient. Before the dawn of mobile technology, information needed to be recorded on site with a pen and clipboard. Now, information can be recorded directly onto a mobile device at the information source, completely eliminating the need for post-information-gathering data entry.
Why use mobile data collection?
It’s simple and fun, mobile data collection saves time, money and a countless number of trees. By digitally recording information at the source of its origin, you don’t have to waste time typing data into a spreadsheet or worry about not being able to read your chicken scratch after the fact. It also makes the whole process a little more bearable for the surveyor and the one providing you with the information you so critically need. And apart from text and numbers questions, you can collect a variety of data (images, video, gps) that is not possible with paper surveys.
