Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) was established under the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Marketing by an Act of Parliament.
The Bureau was established as part of the efforts by the government to strengthen the supporting institutional infrastructure for the industry and commercial sectors of the economy.
A. Formulation of National Standards in the fields of agriculture and food, chemicals, textiles, leather, environment, engineering and service industry.
B. Promotion of standardization and quality assurance services in industry and commerce through training of personnel in:
i. Company standardization.
ii. Quality assurance and management systems.
iii. Quality improvement.
iv. Laboratory techniques and accreditation, ISO 17025, ISO 15189.
v. Packaging technology and
vi. Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP).
