To carry out the responsibility of adherance to the credit policy and all stautory and regulatory guidelines on management of the Banks portfolio of assets whilst seeking to maintain a good balance between the risk and returns.

This position will also include leadership responsibility for a team of Credit Managers.


  • Set objective goals targets for the credit support function in line with business strategic objectives
  • Leads a team of credit approvers to ensure high standard credit quality of the portfolio by using various credit assessment tools
  • Review and develop the Bank's credit approval policies and guidelines as well as participate in ad hoc projects of investigative or trouble-shoorting nature on specific customer portfolio
  • Assist in the setting up of the credit control system
  • Ensure that appropriate credit proposals are submitted to the Credit Committee
  • Carry out work in accordance with the banks procedures
  • Perform the assigned tasks with integrity and diligence
  • Assist with ensuring that Credit supports the approach and contributes to customer satisfaction and the overall performance of the respective Business Units
  • Prepare and present quarterly Board Paper reports and any other reports as per requirements
  • Ensure the portfolio is within the approved sectorial limits
  • Review of all external guarantee funding schemes covering credit exposures and ensuring adherence to payment schedules of guarantee fees
  • Preparation and monitoring of all loans that have been syndicated with other institutions i.e. financial institutions etc.
  • Undertake close monitoring of the portfolio to look for early warning signs of portfolio deterioration and ensure actions are taken by business units accordingly
  • Response to credit correspondence to customers, auditors and BoT
  • Monitor achievement of service level agreements with various users and stakeholders
  • Devise, implement, review and monitor various credit programs and providing training and coaching to continuously upgrade the competency of self and team members
  • Manage the costs within the department effectively
  • To do any other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer from time to time.


  • University degree in Finance, Accounting or a related course.
  • Not less than 7 years of banking experience and 5 years lending/credit related activities
  • Credit evaluation experience with complex credit and structured financing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong relationship management skills and a confident communicator.
  • A team player who can manage efficiently in a changing environment


  • A solid background in credit, 4+ years at decision making level, preferably a track record of operating with a personal delegated authority.
  • Thorough working knowledge of the Risk systems monitoring, and its related procedures, for analysing the account behaviour of clients, identifying trends and shifts in credit risk profiles.
  • Thorough understanding of bank’s products and facilities that give rise to counter party credit risk.
  • Strong technical understanding of non-credit risks encountered within transactions.
  • Knowledge of financial markets (Global and especially African economies).
  • Thorough conceptual and practical knowledge of credit procedures, policies, standards.
